Analysis and design

Analysing results

Analysis is where a solved flowsheet becomes an answer: what it makes, how it behaves when something changes, and a report someone else can read.

What is there

  • Results summary — the mass balance closure, feeds and products, heating, cooling and shaft power, and every block's duty.
  • Stream table — every stream on a molar or mass basis, exportable as CSV.
  • Profiles — a column stage by stage, a reactor along its length, a batch through time, a CSTR's heat curves. Every series exports as CSV.
  • Convergence — the torn streams and the residual at every iteration.
  • Messages — the errors and warnings, by block.
  • AI assistant — sees your flowsheet and results, and explains them. Free plans get five messages a day.
  • Report — a PDF design report of the flowsheet (Pro).

Case studies

  1. Choose what to vary: a block's specification — including a reactor's kinetic constants — or a stream property such as a feed's temperature, pressure or composition.
  2. Choose its range and the number of points: five on a free plan, up to 41 on Pro.
  3. Choose what to watch — any stream property or block result — and run. The chart and table show how it responds.

Vary two things at once and the study runs the whole grid, drawing a family of curves: not just how an output responds, but whether that response changes as something else moves.

Goal seek

Goal seek (Pro) finds the value of one specification that gives the result you want — the heater temperature that makes 50 kmol/h of vapour, the reactor volume for 90% conversion — and can apply it to the flowsheet in one click. It searches within a range you give, so pick one that brackets the answer.
