For LMS administrators

Connecting your LMS

LensaSim connects to Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard, Brightspace and any LMS that supports LTI 1.3. Students open LensaSim assignments and tests from their courses, signed in, and their grades go back to the course gradebook. You set it up once for your institution; lecturers then add links in their own courses.

1. Register LensaSim as an LTI 1.3 tool

Your LMS asks for these addresses:

  • OIDC login (initiation) URL: https://lensasim.com/api/lti/login
  • Redirect / launch (target link) URL: https://lensasim.com/api/lti/launch
  • Public keyset (JWKS) URL: https://lensasim.com/api/lti/jwks
  • Enable Assignment and Grade Services (scores), so grades can be sent back.
  • Set the privacy level to release the learner's name and email — LensaSim needs the email to sign the student in.

2. Send us your registration

Email us your LMS's issuer, the client ID it gave LensaSim, its deployment ID(s), and its login, token and keyset URLs. Include your institution's email domains (for example example.edu): students and staff with those addresses are linked to their LensaSim accounts directly; anyone else confirms their address once, by a code we email them.

We confirm when your registration is live.

3. Lecturers add links in their courses

  • An assignment: a link with the custom parameter assignment_id=<the LensaSim assignment id>. Students are added to the class and their score is sent when they submit.
  • A test: a link with test_code=<the code in the test's Settings>. The first launch ties the test to your LMS — no other institution's LMS can open it — and grades are sent when the lecturer releases results.

Instructors (and teaching assistants) who open a link go to the lecturer's view of it.

Who a launch signs in

  • Someone new to LensaSim gets an account, linked to their LMS identity.
  • An existing LensaSim account is linked directly if its address is in your institution's domains; otherwise the person confirms a code sent to that address, once.
  • From then on, their LMS identity signs into that account only.
  • LensaSim staff accounts can never be signed in from an LMS.

If something doesn't work

  • “Unknown platform” or the launch is refused — the issuer or client ID doesn't match what we registered; check them with us.
  • The launch says your LMS didn't share an email — release the learner's name and email (privacy level).
  • Grades never arrive — the link has no assignment_id or test_code, or scores weren't enabled; for a test, results haven't been released yet.
  • Students are asked to confirm their email — expected once for addresses outside your domains; send us your domains to skip it.
  • A test says it belongs to another LMS — it was first opened from a different LMS; the lecturer can unlink it in the test's Settings.
