Taking a test

A LensaSim test is a design problem you solve in the simulator, set by your lecturer. Everyone gets a different version of the plant, so your answer is your own work and nobody else's.

Finding your test

  • Your lecturer's email has your private link. Don't share it: it is yours alone.
  • If you're in a LensaSim class, the test is also on your notification bell, on the class page, and under My tests on your dashboard, with when it closes.
  • If your course links to it from your LMS, open it from there.

Before you start

The test page shows the rules your lecturer set before anything else:

  • Time limit — the clock starts when you press Start, not when you open the link.
  • AI tools — allowed or not, for this test.
  • A live sitting — some tests are sat on a video call with your lecturer; the page says when.
  • When it closes — after that, the link stops taking work.

Press Start when you're ready. The brief opens then.

Working on it

  • Read the brief, then open the simulator from the test page. It opens on your starting point.
  • Build and solve your design; send it back to the test from the simulator when you're happy. You can send it again as you improve it — the latest is what counts.
  • Answer the questions and write your reasoning on the test page. It is saved in your browser as you go.
  • If you go over the time limit your work is still accepted, but it is marked late.

Submitting

Submitting is final: the page shows exactly what you're sending first. Afterwards your link no longer opens the exercise — it shows that your work arrived.

Your result

  • You see nothing of your mark until your lecturer releases results. Marks can still change while written answers are being marked.
  • When they do, you get an email (and a notification if you have an account), and your link and My tests show your mark, your grade, how you did on each part, the brief's requirements you missed, and any feedback.
  • You don't see the individual checks: the same exercise is used again.
  • A mark marked provisional still has writing to be marked; it can only go up.

If you need an adjustment

Extra time, or a later deadline of your own, is set by your lecturer — ask them. Your rules page and timer then show your own time, and you aren't marked late within it. To have your mark reviewed by a person, ask your lecturer too.

How your work is assessed

Your design is re-solved by LensaSim and checked against the brief; written answers are read by your lecturer and their markers against a rubric. No mark is decided automatically — your lecturer decides. The test page lists exactly what is assessed; what is kept, and for how long, is in the privacy statement.
