This simulation demonstrates the removal of acetone from an air stream using water as the absorbent. The gas is first cooled before entering the absorber, where it contacts water counter-currently. Acetone transfers from the gas into the water, producing a cleaner gas stream and an acetone-rich liquid stream. The rich liquid is then heated and sent to a flash drum to recover part of the acetone as an acetone-enriched vapor. The simulation brings together cooling, gas absorption, heating, and flash separation in one process and shows how changes in operating conditions affect the overall separation.
